About Minister Charles Hyman
Welcome to the Website of Minister Charles Hyman
Take an errant Coke bottle, Soul Train and a miserable road trip, and what do you get? For Charles Hyman, that bizarre combination led to national recognition of his singing ability and a chance for even greater fame. But Hyman, leader of a praise-and-worship team at Village Baptist Church in Fayetteville, said fame isn't his main concern. It's advancing his ministry of hope and support for families. Hyman was recently named national solo vocalist by the Gospel Music Association at its 32nd annual gathering in Estes Park, Colo. He also placed in two other categories, urban gospel and southern gospel.
Hyman's musical career had a strange beginning, he said, back when he was a child in Pinetops, in northeastern North Carolina. One of his favorite places to play was beneath the porch on his house. One day while he was playing there, his sister was sitting on the porch. "She used to put her finger in a Coke bottle and let it slide off" , Hyman said. "She'd catch it with her other hand."
But on this day, her hand-eye coordination was off, and she missed grabbing the bottle as it fell. The bottle struck Hyman on the head, and he went into the house, crying.
